Aug 18, 2023

Zimbabwe, as the Chair of the Kimberley Process (KP) announces KP Plenary meeting on 6-10 November 2023 in a hybrid format, 1: online & 2: in person – for those who will be able to visit Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Kindly note that the deadline for submission of the delegation list by the KP Focal Points is October, 2nd, 2023.

Zimbabwe, the chair oversees the implementation of the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) and operations of the working groups, committees and administration that activate the KP. United Arab Emirates, the Vice Chair is selected at the annual plenary meeting and becomes Chair in the following year subject to ratification from KP participants.

Maintaining its focus in the face of today’s global challenges, The KP enables nations, governments and organisations to share their expertise and insights, and to have a positive, long-term impact on the trade in conflict diamonds and the lives of people in genuine need.

82 governments have enshrined the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) into law. Today, 99,8% of the world’s diamonds come from conflict-free sources. However, as even a single conflict diamond is one too many, the international diamond industry continues to work with governments, NGOs and the UN to strengthen the Kimberley Process and its system of warranties.

Until the KP Permanent Secretariat begins operating, at the start of the 2024 if all goes as planned, the ASM will continue providing services to the Kimberley Process Chair and the head of the KP working groups and committees. For that purpose, the KP Plenary extended the mandate of the ASM through the end of 2023, when it met in Gaborone in November 2022.
