Recently, Capri welcomed for the first time the renowned artist Marina Abramović, protagonist of the public event Breathing Rocks, held in the stunning setting of the Tragara viewpoint, with the Faraglioni rocks in the background. The initiative, promoted with the support of the municipal administration, represented a meeting point between contemporary art and the natural landscape.

The Mayor of Capri, Dr. Paolo Falco, together with councilors Salvatore Ciuccio and Melania Esposito, attended the event to officially welcome the artist and to express, on behalf of the entire community, the value of the cultural dialogue her presence brings.

The connection between Marina Abramović and Capri was born thanks to Maria Elena Aprea, Creative Director of Chantecler, and was strengthened through friendships with Andrea Lazzari (art director and stylist) and Shai Baitel, director of the Modern Art Museum of Shanghai. From this network arose the idea of the visit and the artistic collaboration that accompanied it.

The Breathing Rocks, event was a dialogue between Abramović and Baitel, conducted by journalist and writer Cesare Cunaccia, historian of the island of Capri and author, among others, of Capri Dolce Vita, exploring the symbolic and energetic meaning of Capri’s rocks, seen as living presences capable of generating connection, transformation, and memory. At the end, the audience was invited to participate in an open Q&A session with the artist.

Abramović’s visit coincided with the preview of the capsule collection Chantecler X Marina Abramović, created in collaboration with Andrea Lazzari and inspired by the artist’s vision and the island’s primordial forces.

During her stay, Abramović was hosted at the Hotel Punta Tragara and attended a private party with distinguished guests, including Alessia Marcuzzi and Ema Stokholma. For the occasion, she wore a dress designed by Crida, created by Cristina Parodi and Daniela Palazzi.

The weekend concluded on Sunday with a moment of particular institutional significance: the official presentation of the Keys to the City of Capri to the artist during a visit to the Town Hall, in the presence of Mayor Paolo Falco and local authorities.

With Breathing Rocks, Capri reaffirms its role as a cultural laboratory and creative crossroads, capable of blending art, territory, and contemporary vision.
