In a series of successful editions in Antwerp, a milestone was marked this year as the very first South African edition of the program was proudly introduced. Participants embarked on an exhilarating journey into the world of diamonds in South Africa, exploring the industry from a fresh and unique perspective.
The live week took place from 5 – 14 February 2024 at and around the GIBS Business School in Johannesburg, South Africa. An interesting preparatory online module equipped participants with essential insights, including talks, readings, and clips that could be absorbed at their own pace, ensuring everyone was well-prepared for the upcoming course.
The winter school, titled “From Mine to Finger: A deep dive into the world of Diamonds,” was a collaborative effort of three distinguished partners: the Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC), the University of Antwerp, and the renowned Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).
Participants were captivated by the program’s immersive experience, featuring fascinating site visits, thought-provoking lectures, interactive workshops, and enlightening keynotes delivered by globally acclaimed academics and industry experts. Whether they were final year Bachelor or Master students from any discipline, junior professionals, or dedicated researchers, the winter school provided a gateway to a comprehensive understanding of the world of diamonds in every aspect.
This wasn’t an ordinary winter school; it was an extraordinary opportunity to delve deeply into the multifaceted diamond industry, all set against the captivating backdrop of South Africa, a nation deeply connected to the allure of these precious gems.
