The Supervisory Board of Alrosa, the world’s largest diamond producer by output, has unanimously appointed Pavel Marinychev as the company’s new CEO. Marinychev, who has been with Alrosa since 2016, succeeds Sergey Ivanov, who served as CEO since 2017.

In a statement, Marinychev said he was “grateful for the trust placed in me by the Alrosa Supervisory Board” and that he was committed to “consolidating the company’s dominant position on the global diamond market.” He also said that Alrosa would continue to focus on developing its resource base, increasing production efficiency, and enhancing management quality.

Marinachev has a long history with Alrosa. He joined the company in 2016 as the head of Almazy Anabara, a key production asset. Prior to that, he served as the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where he was in charge of the geology, subsoil use, business, housing and utilities, energy, and building.

Marinachev is a member of the Talent Pool of the President of the Russian Federation, a pool of management personnel under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation. He is also a member of the Management Personnel Reserve of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Talent Pool to fill key positions at the top of Alrosa.

The appointment of Marinychev comes at a time of challenge for Alrosa. The company is facing sanctions from the United States and other countries in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. However, Marinyachev has said that he is confident that Alrosa will be able to overcome these challenges and continue to be a successful company.

“Despite the challenging geopolitical environment, we will continue to develop our resource base, increase production efficiency, and enhance management quality,” Marinychev said. “We will also continue to focus on the growth of Alrosa’s talent pool, as well as on Health and Safety issues and environmental protection.”
