In recent years jewelry designs from the 1970s and 1980s, with their large scale, bold lines and prominent use of gold, have become modern classics, suitable for both daywear and evening looks. This sale includes striking examples from makers such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Bulgari, Harry Winston and Cartier. Focussing here are three;
1: Van Cleef & Arpels, Pair of Gold, Diamond and Onyx Earclips, France! Of half hoop design, each with a row of channel-set square-cut diamonds, carved onyx bands and pavé set round diamonds.
2: Van Cleef & Arpels, Gold, Onyx, Chalcedony and Diamond Necklace. Composed of carved onyx links and circular gold links set with round diamonds, spaced by green chalcedony cabochons and round diamonds, suspending a similarly set detachable pendant.
3: Cartier, Gold, Sapphire, Colored Diamond and Diamond Ring, France. Of bypass design, featuring a pair of stylized dolphins set with pear-shaped and calibré-cut sapphires, round diamonds of yellow hue and round near-colorless diamonds.
