COC Consultation Now Open! : RJC

Apr 19, 2024

In 2021, we started the process of updating our Code of Practices (COP) 2019 standard. The update addressed points of mining, precious metals, coloured gemstones, and laboratories.  The initial update process included two rounds of 60-day public consultations and input from the multi-stakeholder Standards Committee to ensure that the update sets a benchmark within the jewellery industry on best practice for responsible business practices.

Due to timings of the update, we have decided to roll the update of the COP into a full revision. This would fall within the ISEAL requirements to review the standards in full every 5 years. The comments and input received as part of the COP update will inform the draft standard for the review.

This update review of the COP is being conducted as per the Iseal Code of Good Practise for Sustainability Systems v1.0

COC Consultation Now Open! In 2022, we started the process of a major review of the RJC Chain of Custody (CoC) standard. The initial update process included two rounds of 60-day public consultations and input from the multi-stakeholder Standards Committee to ensure that the updated standard sets a benchmark within the jewellery industry on traceability and responsible sourcing of material.

The update addresses various points, including,

1: removing repetition with the COP (OECD COP 7 due diligence requirements, COP 12 KYC, internal material controls);

2: a potential review of recycled definition; and

3: incorporating RJC supplementary guidance.
