The International Institute of Gemology (IIG) South, an education division of Laxmi Diamonds, Bengaluru, celebrated its 4th Convocation Ceremony at Shangri-La Hotel, marking a significant milestone in its journey of shaping the future of jewellery education.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Joy Alukkas, Chairman of the Joyalukkas Group, and Shri. Samruddhi V Manjunath, CMD of SiriSamruddhi Gold Palace Pvt. Ltd. and Honorable MLA, Govt. of Karnataka, along with proud parents, alumni, and families. Also present were Mr. Chetan Kumar Mehta, Chairman & MD of Laxmi Diamonds and driving force behind IIG South, and Mr. Rahul Desai, CEO & MD of IIG, under whose visionary leadership the institute has become India’s fastest-growing centre for jewellery education, mentoring professionals globally and shaping the industry’s future.
Graced by eminent industry stalwarts, dignitaries, proud parents, and alumni, the event honored 220 graduating students who are now ready to embark on their professional journeys. The atmosphere was one of inspiration and pride, as leaders of the jewellery industry shared their encouragement and blessings with the young graduates.
The ceremony was marked by several special highlights. A landmark collaboration with Jain (Deemed-to-be) University was unveiled, launching a B.Voc in Gems & Jewellery Design, creating new pathways for higher education in jewellery. The event also witnessed the book launch of “Spreading Joy,” the autobiography of legendary entrepreneur Dr. Joy Alukkas, with each student receiving a personally signed copy.
Adding to the celebratory spirit, IIG alumni who have successfully established their own brands showcased their entrepreneurial journeys through dedicated stalls, reinforcing IIG’s role in nurturing innovators and creators.
The evening also featured the 15th edition of “Coffee with Chetan Kumar Mehta,” which brought an inspiring exchange of insights with Dr. Joy Alukkas. Alongside, a curated exhibition of sketches, ornaments, and award-winning masterpieces highlighted the creative and technical brilliance of IIG South’s students.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chetan Kumar Mehta, Chairman & MD of Laxmi Diamonds, shared: “At IIG South, we don’t just teach jewellery; we nurture innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will shape the future of this industry.”
