The diamond extraction in Angola is expected to rise, in 2027, to 17.53 million carats per year, surpassing the figure of 8.72 million achieved in 2021. The data was revealed in Luanda, by the director of the Statistical Studies office of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas (MIREMPET), Alexandre Garreth.
According to the person in charge who addressed the topic Objectives and Targets of the Mining Sector, at the Training Seminar for Communication Journalists in the field of mining, in relation to gold production, the aim is to surpass the 1.37 thousand fine ounces reached in 2021, with prospecting for 13.18 thousand fine ounces in 2027.
In this sense, he highlighted that Mirempet’s goals fall within the National Development Plan 2023-2027, emphasizing that the sector’s challenges are to achieve the desired goals, as it is an activity that requires engagement from the entire sector. According to those responsible, the production of ornamental rocks aims to exceed 83.34 thousand m³, a figure produced in 2021, to reach 134.22 thousand m³ in 2027.
To meet the challenges, this year, the construction of the Ornamental Rocks Development Pole in the province of Namibe is expected. By 2027, he continued, ten diamond cutting factories will be built, under the coordination of Endiama, four in the province of Lunda-Norte and six in the province of Lunda-Sul.
