This collaboration is especially important for the artisans who are the lifeline of the Industry. Professional qualification will also help them enhance their social status to a great extent and will be recognized further for their craft”. Dr. Harsh Shah, President of SIGMA University, shared his thoughts on the collaboration, stating, “At SIGMA University, we believe in empowering industry through education. This collaboration with GII reflects our commitment to equipping students with globally relevant skills while honoring India’s legacy in gems and jewellery.”

India plays a vital role in the global gems and jewellery trade, contributing 7% to the national GDP and accounting for 15% of India’s merchandise exports. With 90% of the world’s diamonds processed in India, and 15 out of every 16 diamonds polished by skilled Indian artisans, the sector continues to be a beacon of precision and excellence.

The industry thrives on unmatched artistry, with diamonds being meticulously cut with 58 facets, some as fine as the point of a needle. Degree programs such as Bachelor of Diamonds and Bachelor of Jewellery will be introduced at GII, affiliated to SIGMA University.

Mr. Mehul Shah extended his heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Harsh Shah, President of SIGMA University, and his team for their commitment to this visionary partnership and added, “We are excited to work together in building a stronger, more educated future for the gems and jewellery industry”.
