The results of the new automated control system for mining and transport operations Tsifra. Quarry was summed up at the production site of the Udachny Mining and Processing Plant of Alrosa. Thanks to the development, the utilization rate of dump trucks at the Zarnitsa diamond quarry increased by 15%. Due to the operational management of technological operations, the downtime of each dump truck was reduced by 114 minutes per shift.
Today, 163 units of equipment are connected to the system, including 122 road trains, 26 quarry trains, 9 loaders and 6 excavators. Onboard sensor kits are installed on the mining equipment, information from which on the status of the equipment, geolocation and trip accounting is sent to the control room.
In real time, dispatchers analyze a map with the movement of mining equipment and detailed information about each machine: movement, waiting, unloading / loading of rock mass, statistics on the volume of work, downtime. High productivity of the process is supported by a specially created operations control center. Part of the system is a tablet in the driver’s and machine operators’ cabins, with which they can record possible equipment breakdowns and communicate directly with the control room.
The implementation of the dispatching system made it possible to manage processes on the shift horizon, organize data collection, monitor kimberlite ore transportation flows in real time, instantly track key equipment performance indicators and make prompt decisions based on them.
“We launched the Ideal Shift project based on the automated mining and transport operations management system. We decided to combine several operations that were previously separated in time into one process. Now, at technological sites – pit stops – the equipment is simultaneously refueled, inspected and undergoes the necessary repairs. As a result, dump truck maintenance was reduced from 60 to 15 minutes,” said Nikolay Borisov, Director of the Alrosa Production System Center.
“As part of this task, we went beyond standard solutions and completed two projects in one in record time. We did not limit ourselves to implementing dispatching only at the quarry, we developed and implemented a single system for monitoring the ore flow. This means that we not only control the processes at Zarnitsa, but also get a complete picture of the movement of road trains. Such a comprehensive approach to dispatching, including the production road from the quarry to the mining and processing plant, allows us to obtain additional effects,” said Nikolay Godunov, a representative of the GC Tsifra software, the developer of the system, and the head of the Mining Industry division.
In 2024, the Tsifra. Quarry, solution began to be implemented in Mirny at the Internatsionalny mine. The system is planned to be put into industrial operation at the end of 2025. Before that, Tsifra. Quarry was launched at the Aikhalsky, Mirny-Nyurbinsky GOKs and the Udachny quarry.
