Jewellers, carry goods with essential documentation: GJC

1 Helzberg DiamondThe apex industry body, All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), calls upon its members and industry stakeholders to carry out all necessary documentation to ensure the smooth movement of goods during the upcoming Maharashtra election. The GJC’s directive covers items such as gems and jewellery, bullion, precious stones, and allied articles.

In light of the upcoming Maharashtra elections, GJC issued an advisory for jewellers to ensure smooth movement of goods by carrying out invoice as per Rule 46 if the CGST rules 2017, Delivery Challan, Carrier Authorization Letter, E-Way Bill (Optional), Photo ID of Carrier, Certified Stock Statement (with items details and values), and Advisory and NOC from CBDT and the Chief Electoral Officer.

All invoices and delivery challans must carry the statement such as ‘Items listed are solely for commercial transactions, with no political affiliation or intent to support any campaign. In case jewellers face unwarranted interception, they are directed to report the incident promptly via the cVIGIL app for swift process.

Saiyam Mehra, Chairman-GJC, stated, “We call upon our members and stakeholders across Maharashtra to take necessary steps to ensure the smooth and secure movement of gold and diamond jewellery within the state during the crucial election period. As part of this effort, the GJC requests all members to adhere to the guidelines set forth by the state’s regulatory bodies.

Members are encouraged to work closely with local law enforcement and election authorities to comply with protocols for safe transport and distribution of high-value items. Additionally, members are advised to ensure proper documentation and transparency in all transactions to prevent any disruptions or misunderstandings during transit.”

Rajesh Rokde, Vice Chairman of the All India Gem and Jewellery Domestic Council, said, “The GJC is committed to supporting the authorities in maintaining a secure environment and minimizing any disruptions to trade activities during this crucial period.

Our industry stands together in promoting a peaceful and compliant election period. We urge all members to take extra precautions in facilitating the uninterrupted and lawful movement of jewellery, ensuring the industry’s integrity and upholding the guidelines laid down by authorities.”

The GJC remains available to assist its members with any concerns related to the transportation or movement of jewellery and will continue to work with state authorities to safeguard the interests of the gems and jewellery sector during the election period.
