In a remarkable discovery, a tribal labourer in Madhya Pradesh’s Panna district has found a diamond valued at over ₹40 lakh while working in a shallow mine. Identified as Madhav, the labourer was digging at the Krishna Kalyanpur Patti mine when he stumbled upon the 11.95-carat gem, said domestic media resources.
According to Ravi Patel, an official from the Panna diamond office, “The diamond is exceptionally clean and valuable, with an estimated market value exceeding ₹40 lakh.” Following protocol, Madhav has deposited the diamond at the district’s diamond office. It will be put up for auction soon, and after deducting a 12.5% royalty, the remaining proceeds will be handed over to him.
Panna, part of the Bundelkhand region, is renowned for its diamond mines and is estimated to hold reserves of around 12 lakh carats of diamonds. It has remained unexplored because of Tiger Reserve & NGT norms.
