In keeping with the Dholakia family tradition of character-building, Heet Dholakia, son of Ghanshyam Dholakia, Managing Director and Founder of Hari Krishna Exports and Kisna Diamond & Gold Jewellery; completed a month-long Incognito Training in Gangtok, Sikkim.
This unique tradition, followed in the Dholakia family for over 25 years, requires the next generation to step out of their comfort zone, travel to an unknown city without money, identity, or family support, and live there by working in ordinary jobs. The goal is to cultivate humility, resilience, and self-reliance.
A Journey of Survival and Discovery: Heet’s journey began the moment he boarded a flight from Mumbai to Bagdogra. With no resources in hand, his only assets were courage, adaptability, and determination. Over the course of four weeks.
He took on diverse roles; 1: Waiter – At Sher-E-Punjab, where he learned the dignity of service and the importance of living without worry for tomorrow. 2: Cleaner – At the jewellery showroom Rema by Ramji Sunaar, where the owner’s kindness showed him the value of care and trust.
Street Entrepreneur – Selling tea and later ice creams on MG Road, turning a ₹8 cup of tea into ₹20 through creativity and persistence, earning ₹3,500 in three days. Salesman – At Royal Collection, where he chose to continue working out of compassion for the shop owner’s differently-abled son.
Despite harsh weather and cultural differences, in his incognito status, Heet persevered. Each challenge became a life lesson. Life lessons learned through these experiences; Heet came away with powerful insights;
1: Take no tension for tomorrow — what you earn today is enough.
2: Step out of your comfort zone; success lies beyond.
3: Business does not always need capital — willpower and hard work can build empires.
4: Do not pity the poor — empower them to live with dignity.
5: Phones kill thinking — real growth comes from real experience.
6: We create our own destiny.
A Legacy of Lessons reflecting on his one-month journey, Heet shared, “Maybe if I hadn’t done this training, I would never have truly understood life. Every moment tested me, taught me, and shaped me. This journey was not just survival – it was self-discovery.”
