On September 9th, 1999, 3Design jewellery CAD software hit a major milestone with the release of its first version.
Developed by Type3 (now part of the Gravotech Group under Brady Corporation) was the software was created in response to requests from Type3’s French clients in the jewellery industry, who were using TypeEdit engraving software at the time. They sought a dedicated tool for jewellery design. Back then, many companies used engineering software like SolidWorks for jewellery creation, which bench jewellers found overly complex.
Pooja Sahny, director of Sierra Consultancy and the UK and Ireland representative for 3Design, reflects on the software’s evolution,
“There have been key moments in 3Design’s history. It made its international debut at Baselworld in 2000. The initial version offered just a handful of tools, whereas the latest version (Version 12) now boasts over 200, helping designers create with precision.
“I started using 3Design in 2008, as CAD was gaining traction in the industry. When I began with Version 5, the interface looked cartoonish. The 2010 release of Version 7 introduced 3Shaper, an organic modeller, while Versions 8 through 10 revamped the user interface. Version 12, launched this year, offers enhanced real-time rendering for client presentations.”
To celebrate this milestone, Sierra Consultancy is offering promotional deals on orders placed before September 30th, along with a 12-month payment plan.
