Alrosa Explores Gold Mining Potential at Diamond Deposits in Mirny

Oct 31, 2025

68726292 MirnyAlrosa is studying the feasibility of extracting associated gold from its diamond mining operations at the Myrinsko-Nyurbinsky Mining and Processing Plant (MNGOK) in Mirny. The company’s Vilyui geological exploration expedition has received a positive assessment from Rosgeoexpertiza for its proposed gold exploration in the region.

The initiative aims to evaluate the efficiency of recovering gold from diamond-bearing ore at Enrichment Plant No. 3. Earlier, reserves of 433 kg of gold were confirmed at the alluvial deposits of Gornoye and Irelyakh, which are part of MNGOK. Currently, associated gold recovery takes place alongside diamond washing operations at sorting plants in the Mirny district.

Collaboration between geologists and mining specialists will help determine whether integrating gold extraction into diamond processing is economically viable.

“Once we confirm the efficiency, associated gold mining can be incorporated into the enrichment plant’s production process,” said Roman Zhelonkin, Chief Geologist at Alrosa.
