Russian diamond miner Alrosa will temporarily suspend mining operations at its subsidiary Severalmaz for approximately three months from 1 July 2026 as part of planned operational measures.
The temporary suspension will affect mining activities at the Lomonosov diamond deposit in Russia’s Arkhangelsk region, one of Europe’s largest diamond deposits. Ore processing operations and other supporting activities will continue during the shutdown, allowing the company to process previously mined ore while carrying out scheduled work at the mine.
According to Alrosa, the suspension is a planned measure and is not expected to affect the company’s overall production plans. The miner said it has accumulated sufficient ore stockpiles to ensure uninterrupted operation of the processing plant during the three-month period.
Severalmaz, which is majority-owned by Alrosa, operates the Lomonosov diamond deposit, with the processing plant designed to handle up to 4 million tonnes of ore annually. The company is one of Russia’s key diamond producers outside Yakutia.
