Anoop Mehta, President of Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB), Vice President of World Diamond Council (WDC) and Convenor of Diamond Panel of GJEPC, was honoured with the “Industry Legend” award by the GJEPC. The award was conferred on him, as well as a number of other industry stalwarts, at a special function during the IIJS Bharat Premiere exhibition, celebrating their role as prominent Change-Leaders steering the industry towards its next phase of growth.
Thanking GJEPC, and all his colleagues and friends in the industry for this recognition, and dedicating the award to all the stakeholders who have helped the trade flourish, Mr. Mehta said, “Multiple initiatives taken by different trade bodies, such as IIJS, which is now celebrating 25 years as a B2B show, have already taken our industry to great heights. We are the undisputed global leaders polished diamonds, and I believe that India is now well positioned to become the leading jewellery supplier to the world, perhaps even as early as in the next five to ten years.”
Acknowledging the support of the government, Mr. Mehta added, “Trade bodies have constantly interacted with the government to create an exporter friendly regime. Now the latest tax proposals accepted by the government will make rough diamonds more easily accessible to all, and provide a significant boost to the trade.”
Mr Mehta has not only been the President of BDB for over two decades but has also played a prominent role in other trade organisations, as well as represented the country internationally. In addition to his positions in BDB and WDC, he is also a member of the Executive Committee of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), and the Committee of Administration of the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), besides being Chairman of the International Gemological Institute (IGI).
