Jaipur Gem & Jewellery Bourse Set to Transform Global Coloured Gemstone Trade

Jun 22, 2026

828552219 Jaipur 1The Jaipur Gem & Jewellery Bourse (JGJB), backed by the Rajasthan Government and leading international industry bodies, is being positioned as a major initiative that could reshape the global coloured gemstone trade amid rising demand for high-quality stones.

During a meeting with Hon’ble Rajasthan Chief Minister Shri Bhajan Lal Sharma, Gaetano Cavalieri, President, CIBJO, and Pramod Agrawal, Chairman, JGJB and Vice President, CIBJO, discussed the project’s role in strengthening Jaipur’s standing as the world’s leading centre for coloured gemstones. The Rajasthan Government has supported the development through land allotment by RIICO and continued engagement under the Rajasthan Investment Promotion Scheme (RIPS).

Pramod Agrawal said the Chief Minister had reaffirmed the state’s support for infrastructure, policy initiatives, skilling and investments required to realise the project. “This gives the industry tremendous confidence as we move towards creating a world-class hub that will strengthen Jaipur’s position as the global capital of coloured gemstones,” Agrawal said.

Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC, said the bourse would reinforce India’s leadership in the coloured gemstone sector. “Jaipur’s unmatched expertise in coloured gemstones has made it a cornerstone of the global gem and jewellery industry for centuries. The Jaipur Gem & Jewellery Bourse will strengthen India’s leadership in the global coloured gemstone trade by creating a world-class ecosystem that connects heritage, craftsmanship and international commerce,” Bhansali added.

Describing the initiative as globally significant, Gaetano Cavalieri said growing demand for quality coloured gemstones made the project timely. “The market is requesting increasing quantities of coloured gemstones, particularly quality gemstones, and Jaipur has always been one of the world’s most important centres for the coloured gemstone trade,” Cavalieri said. He added that the bourse could become a global reference point by bringing together trade, services, sustainability and traceability under one ecosystem.

Planned as the world’s first dedicated bourse exclusively for coloured gemstones and coloured gemstone-studded jewellery, JGJB will house more than 1,750 trading offices and kiosks, along with customs facilitation, gem-testing laboratories, auction facilities and other support services.

Jointly promoted by GJEPC and the Jewellers Association Jaipur (JAJ), the project is expected to generate around 60,000 jobs while creating a modern ecosystem that links Jaipur’s centuries-old gemstone craftsmanship with international trade standards.
