The World Diamond Council’s (WDC) revised System of Warranties (SoW) has moved into full implementation, making responsible sourcing and business-practice requirements a more direct part of transactions across the natural diamond supply chain.
From 21 September 2026, the revised SoW applies to rough diamonds, polished diamonds and diamond jewellery sales, following a five-year transition period.
For manufacturers, traders, retailers and exporters, the change means the warranty declaration on invoices must now be backed by business practices covering areas including human and labour rights, anti-money laundering and anti-corruption.
The shift is significant because compliance is no longer limited to rough-diamond transactions. Companies across the polished and jewellery segments will need to ensure their internal policies, supplier relationships and transaction processes support the commitments made through the SoW.
The WDC has stressed that the credibility of the system ultimately depends on how consistently companies implement these principles in their day-to-day operations.
