De Beers Group’s Science & Technology division has introduced SynthDetect 2, the latest generation of its desktop diamond screening instrument, designed to deliver faster, more automated and cost-efficient screening for manufacturers, laboratories and retailers.
The new instrument builds on the capabilities of the original SynthDetect and SynthDetect XL, launched in 2017 and 2018. Both instruments gained industry adoption for their technical screening performance and ability to test multiple stones in set jewellery without a probe.
SynthDetect 2 reduces the time required for a full tray scan from around 30 minutes to under five minutes, while expanding the range of diamonds and jewellery it can screen. Greater automation also reduces operator input, while automated reporting and software updates further streamline the screening process.
De Beers said the instrument was developed in close collaboration with industry participants to ensure it integrates effectively into existing operational workflows.
