After months of swaddling and covering up to avoid the winter cold, Spring always feels like a breath of fresh air, a relaxing sigh that allows us to take ourselves a little less seriously. “I love the un-layering that comes with the spring fashion season,” says Giuseppe Picchiotti, Founder of the Picchiotti brand.
“As a jeweler, I am biased. I prefer open necklines for showing off stylish necklaces and shorter sleeves making room for sparkling rings and bracelets. It’s also freeing to dress, knowing you do not have to worry about warmth. Be sure to break open the jewelry box as you enjoy these trends for the season ahead.”
Pastels are often prominent in spring as Couture designers yearn for lightening the look. Doff the wool, tweed, and shearling, and opt for sheers, crochet, and shorts for spring, especially in pastel hues. Pink is the color of the season, seen in a wide variety of collections, including Jil Sander, Balenciaga, Balmain, Giambattista Valli, Carolina Herrera, Miu Miu, and more. Baby blue was also seen on a number of catwalks from Acne, Zimmerman, Chloé, Sandy Liang, Rabanne, and others.
Pair these softer hues with gemstones and precious metals in similar colors. Think rose gold, pink sapphires, and mother of pearl for those who prefer a matchy-matchy look. Or take a cue from Chanel and pair contrasting black and pink, such as Picchiotti’s pink tourmaline and black ceramic cocktail ring.
Or pair your pale pinks with darker pinks or some of the red fabrics that have been trending for several seasons now. Balmain topped a hot pink mini skirt with a satiny pastel pink blouse, reminding us of Picchiotti Xpandable “bullet bracelet” in rose gold with bright red sparkling rubies.
The pastel blues range from faded denim to sky blue and call for gemstones like Paraiba tourmaline, turquoise, or Picchiotti’s new gem ceramic blue in necklaces, bracelets, and rings. For optimum flexibility, invest in a reversible bracelet with light blue on one side and bright white on the other – the turquoise gem ceramic works well with all of the spring/summer shades, and the white is wearable all year long.
