Alexander Tin-Shan, a miner at Alrosa’s Internatsionalny mine, won the All-Russian, Best in Profession- competition. In addition to a 1-million-ruble award, Alrosa will develop an individual development plan for the winner.
Alexander is relatively new to the profession, having previously worked as a firefighter. He became interested in mining, and after retraining, in 2023 he joined the mining and development department at the Internatsionalny underground mine of Alrosa’s Mirny-Nyurba Mining and Processing Division.
Alexander began actively participating in streamlining production processes, mastering new equipment, and participating in labor competitions. In June 2025, on the recommendation of management, he participated in the Best in Profession Alrosa Championship, winning first place in the Underground Miner skill category.
Alexander competed in the All-Russian Professional Skills Competition “Best in Profession” in the special category Second Start, for those retrained for a vocational specialty. The federal stage of the competition was held in Samara from October 2nd to 3rd. Seventeen participants from across the country, including Omsk, Kaliningrad, Samara, Arkhangelsk, Krasnoyarsk, and other cities, competed for the title.
First and foremost, the participants had to convince the judges that they had fully mastered their new specialty. They also had to demonstrate that their career path was the most inspiring. They created creative video business cards and conducted open lessons for schoolchildren, which were judged by a public vote and an expert jury.
For me, Second Start- is, first and foremost, proof that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. Winning this competition is recognition that I’m on the right path. Some may consider changing careers a very risky move, but I can confidently say: I haven’t regretted it for a second. “This success inspires me to move forward,” Alexander Tin-Shan shared his emotions.
As the competition winner, Alexander will receive 1 million rubles from the organizers. The awards ceremony will take place in Moscow in December.
“Alrosa places great emphasis on increasing the popularity of blue-collar jobs. On behalf of the entire company, I would like to congratulate Alexander on this remarkable victory, which he certainly deserves. We plan to develop an individual development plan for him, which will serve as a solid foundation for further professional and career growth,” said Alrosa CEO Pavel Marinychev.
The Alrosa miner also received congratulations from the head of Yakutia. “Alexander has proven that perseverance and hard work help you reach new heights. Yakutia is proud of its young and motivated professionals, who confirm that we know how to change and move forward,” Aisen Nikolaev wrote on his Telegram channel.
